Billy stumbled into the kitchen, his eyes blinking in the bright yellow light. He hitched up his sliding pajama bottoms trying to make his sleep addled brain make sense of the sight he’d found.

“What are you doing?”

Dominic looked down to where potatoes and onions sat on a cutting board, to the knife he held, then back to Billy. “What do you mean, what am I doing? What does it look like I’m doing?”

“I know *what* you’re doing. I meant why are you doing it. It’s two in the morning.”

“Couldn’t sleep. Something on my mind.”

Billy moved closer, leaning his hip against the counter next to Dominic. He yawned loudly then rubbed his hand over his eyes. Talking around another yawn, he asked, “Do you want to talk about it?”

Dominic cut his eyes at Billy, studying his face for a minute, trying to determine if he wanted to tell. He shook his head slowly and said, “No. I don’t think so. Why don’t you go back to bed? You look shattered.”

Sleepily nodding his head, Billy turned and started back out of the room before Dominic added, “*Mate.*”

Billy sighed and turned back around. Dominic’s back was rigid as he hacked at a potato. “You’re still upset about tonight, then.”

“It wasn’t a fair bet.”

“It was *your* bet. You decided the rules and Elijah won. You can’t be mad over that.”

“But…I…” Dominic slammed down the knife, spun around to face Billy while crossing his arms over his chest. “You tricked me and then you cheated.”

“Cheated? It was a sucker bet. You knew you would lose anyways, didn’t you? That’s why you said you wanted a kiss.”

Dominic looked confused for a moment. He opened and shut his mouth a couple of times, trying to figure out a logical response. Finally, he answered, “Yeah, right,” and turned back to chop at the potato some more.

Neither spoke for a few minutes, Billy watching Dominic’s back again. “It was a wind up, right? You didn’t really want me to kiss you.” Billy’s voice was quiet, the only other sound the knife hitting the cutting board. “Did you?”

Dominic’s cheeks flushed red. Billy’s eyes widened in shock. He was suddenly very awake.

“You did. You *wanted* me to have to kiss you.”

“Did not.”

“Too! Your mouth just twitched to the side. You always do that when you lie.” Billy laughed, grabbing hold of Dominic’s arm and giving it a little shake. “You know what else?”

“Go away, Bill.”

“I think you still want me to kiss you.”

“No I don’t”

“You do!” Billy crowed, leaning in closer. He raised his hand and stroked the back over Dominic’s cheek. “Your mouth just did that thing again.”

Dominic jerked his head out of Billy’s reach. “Fuck off.”

“Dominic Monaghan wants me to kiss him,” Billy sang, wrapping his arms around Dominic’s waist.

Dominic reddened again, playfully holding the knife out. “Real bright pissing off the guy with the knife.”

“Admit it.”

“No!” The corners of Dominic’s lips twitched upwards as he tried not to smile. He dropped the knife and pretended to struggle out of Billy’s arms.

Billy laughed again, moving his arms to pin Dominic’s to his side. “You know, if you ask me nicely, I’ll give you a kiss. I’m good too, you can ask Elijah.”

“You’re such a wanker.” Laughing, Dominic stopped struggling and looked at Billy. “Why would I want to kiss you after I’ve seen where your tongue has been.”

Billy acted as if he were offended, his hands dropping to his sides. “I didn’t use my tongue! It’s not as if he stopped laughing long enough for me to even try.”

“Would you have?”

“Do you want me to now?”

“What? Wait.” Dominic shook his head, trying to figure out how they had got back to him.

Billy hitched up his bottoms again then put his hands on his hips and tilted his head to the side. “Okay. We’ll bet. If I win, then you have to ask me for a kiss.”

Dominic arched an eyebrow at him. “And if I win?”

“Whatever you want,” Billy said, stretching his arms out wide.

Quite pleased with himself, Dominic looked Billy up and down, his cheeks red, before answering, “All right. What’s the bet then?”

“I bet you…” Looking around the kitchen for something to bet on, Billy’s eyes rested on the remaining unpeeled potatoes. “That you can’t shave off a potato skin in one long strand.”

“That’s easy.” Dominic turned back around and picked up an unpeeled potato and his knife. He carefully started slicing the skin off, twisting the potato around in his hand.

Billy stood next to him, watching. “You’re very good at that.”

“Thank you.”

Stepping up behind him, Billy wrapped his arms around Dominic’s waist and rested his chin on Dominic’s shoulder. The strand grew as Dominic very carefully worked the knife. “Billy? What are you doing?”

He went back to peeling the potato, almost done. Suddenly, his hand jerked up as he felt something tickle his ear. “Yes, you are. Stop it. Not fair.”

Billy chuckled, waiting for him to return to the potato. They both stood there very still for long seconds before Dominic felt safe enough to put the knife-edge back against the potato. As he turned the potato in his hand, careful not to pull the strand off, he felt Billy’s hands move across his stomach underneath his t-shirt. His hand stopped again and he looked to Billy’s face so close to his own. “I’m not going to lose.”

Billy stilled his hands and tried to look innocent.

“Don’t believe it for a moment, Boyd. Go stand over there.” He pointed across the room with the knife.

“I’m very interested in this. You’ve a very nice technique.”

“Unh hn. Go.”

Billy smirked at him, dragging his hands very slowly across Dominic’s stomach, then out from under his shirt. He walked a couple of steps to the other side of the sink, and rested his chin on his hand, watching Dominic intently. Dominic waited to make sure he would stay put and then put the knife back against the potato. Pulling off the peel with a flourish, Dominic tossed it towards Billy, laughing. “I win!”

“Very impressive.” Billy said as he caught and stretched it out. He dropped it into the sink and took a step forward. “So…what do you want for winning?”

“Um…” Dominic pushed his fingers through his hair and down his face, puffing his cheeks out. “Anything?”

Nodding his head, Billy moved closer and put his hands back on Dominic’s waist.

“What if I want two things?”

“Name them.”

“First, I want you to promise me that you won’t ever kiss someone in front of me again. Even if he loses a bet.”

“Done. And the second?”

Dominic ducked his head and put his hands on Billy’s waist, shy for asking. “I want you to kiss me.”

“You sound like a girl, Dom.”

“Hey!” Dominic tried pushed him away but Billy grabbed his head with both hands, crushing their lips together. Dominic resisted for about two seconds before closing his eyes and wrapping his arms back around Billy’s body. Billy turned his head a bit, biting at Dominic’s lower lip. Dominic parted his lips and felt Billy’s tongue slide against his own. He sighed into the kiss, making happy, little noises in his throat as he felt Billy’s hands rub down his back.

Finally, they pulled their mouths away from one another, both breathing heavily. Dominic buried his face into Billy’s neck. Billy kissed his cheek and whispered into his ear, “Told you, you wanted to kiss me.”

“Shut up,” Dominic laughed.

“Hey! I bet you couldn’t peel an apple like that.”
