Almost. He could overcome and his own (and a better) person but in the end doesn't, I think. I always think it's more of a tribute to James, Sirius, and Remus that they were a friend to Peter rather than Peter doing anything to deserve it. If he was truly good and truly "worthy", then how does he turn out to do something so rotten to them, and then to Harry later? I think he must have been weak to begin with. /ramble :D
