I had a good night's sleep (with the injured girl, who woke me up wanting her head rubbed) and fed and watered, so I feel less like I'm coming apart at the seams. I need to sit quietly for a few minutes and remember what it was that I wanted to get done this weekend (besides laundry and ironing, which I suppose I should start). My kitties weren't the only ones upset by the change in routine.
Whilst reading friendsfriends over breakfast this morning, I saw a post (and definitely not the first) bemoaning Peter Jackson's The Hobbit because it took liberties with a "children's book" (extending it where it didn't need extension and setting it into a larger world of war and violence). I've never considered The Hobbit a children's book, mostly because I had read once that the book came out of Tolkien's experiences with World War I and losing all but one of his friends, so despite everything there is something a bit dark even in The Hobbit (which I think Martin Freeman portrays wonderfully). It's part of this larger body of work set in Middle Earth, and I think that Jackson's movie honors that by making it a trilogy and connecting it firmly with LotR. Besides, I'm not complaining about being given nine more hours in Middle Earth :D My only hope is that one day he tackles The Silmarillion. It is a gift! to quote Boromir. Anyway, this article besides being deliciously geeky about all things Tolkien, says it better.
Anyway. I need to get dressed and go out into the rain to get groceries. The best part of living on a college campus, I think, was having the meal plan. I don't mind cooking every now and again, and I think I'm actually a good cook, mostly, but I hate the drudgery of decide what to cook and eat three times a day every day all week. I went to a small, liberal arts college, and the food was mostly Southern and good. In my last semester, I would rush out of physics on Wednesdays to just make the last lunch for pork chops and cornbread stuffing, which I have never mastered. Anyway, I'm off: grocery and list making and ironing and laundry.

I would totally make you a meal plan/list and accompanying grocery list, but only you know what you might be in the mood for week to week, sighface. When I'm next there, let's think about doing a metric fuckton of fun cooking and freeze it and you can just reach in and relax. <3

But I'd still have to cook it, Laura! You'll have to come to stay. and cook.
