I have a mixed bag :D and I've been sitting on them a while because I wanted to include the slashababy fics and it took me a while to stop being cranky about it. I need a recs!! icon.
Donna/Josh, because that's what I'm feeling, yo'. I'd read Danny/CJ if I could find it and... That might be it. I'd read gen, I suppose. Thing is, the characters I like on West Wing, I really like and the ones I don't (Sam, but only because I don't like Rob Lowe's face), I really don't. I really like Toby, though, so I'd read that if it didn't involve Sam. But I digress, because Donna/Josh!
The Age of Aquarius by Speranza.
Summary: "You know," Toby said, pulling a cigar out of his inside coat pocket and regarding it thoughtfully, "I never found your relationship with Donna particularly baffling. I just figured you ran on sexual frustration like the rest of us."
This one mostly because it made me smile.
A Different Kind of Day by apocryphile. West Wing: Donna/Josh
Summary: What if Donna had been with Josh at Rosslyn? And what would have happened next?
*cue choirs* I just really liked this one a lot. It was intense and really well written. The dialogue was great, the characters were great. (It was great okay?) AU but since I'm only halfway through season 3 but ready for them to get together already because I'm impatient, this story really worked for me.
Mixed bag of pairings. I really tried to link back to the authors journals rather than the main comm but only one author was obliging.
Adaptability by
slashfairy (Lotrips: Richard/Aidan)
Summary: How did Richard find out drinking too much the night before makes one's facial prostheses slide off the next day?
This has a really direct, fast paced style that I rather liked. I liked, too, the gentle way they come together.
The Air Around You by
eff_reality (Lotrips: Billy/Dom)
Summary: Just a visit like any other.
This was really quite beautiful and bittersweet.
Five Things Elijah Learned in New Zealand (and One He Learned from Dom) (Elijah/Dom) by
thepsychicclam
Summary: Five interactions with Viggo, Karl, Bean, Billy, and Ian, and how it all eventually leads to Dom.
Beautiful.
Like the Past, the Now, the Coming Years by
kiltsandlollies Elijah/Billy (implied Billy/Dom, Billy/Dom/Elijah)
Summary: In and out of 2005, Sundance, a little before and after sunset, a lot after sunrise. For Slashababy 2012.
This is probably one of the best Elijah stories I've ever read. When I first came into Lotrips (actually before I knew fandom existed), I was allllll about Elijah/Frodo but then discovered bb/dm and that was that. This reminds me why I liked him so much because there's a maturity in him in this that I think is actually in him and that is so often lacking in fic--sometimes when he was paired with Viggo (or David Wenham, and why isn't there more of that in the world?), but with Dom? No dice (usually). Anyway, I digress. This is really beautifully written and I often tease Laura about her ability to write about the furniture (which I lack, honestly--I'm more of a straightforward action and dialogue girl) but this is why that's good. You get depth of emotion, you get mature characters, and you get beauty in writing. And so ends my love letter to Laura, yes, but this fic is fantastic.
A Cottage in the Woods by
mindabbles
Summary: It's been a bad end to a bad day, but with some help from his friends, Remus can believe that the New Year might get off to a fine beginning.
Absolutely delightful. Great dialogue, great characterizations coupled with adventure! and romance. I'm a little bit in love.
Once Again (for Old Time's Sake) by
mindabbles
Summary: One more prank to lift the holiday spirits and show the young ones who's still got it. One more to reach across the years to give it one more try.
A short work, but there was something really delightful about it.
mindabbles writes the boys so well and the dialogue is great. It's just a really enjoyable little story.
The Remus Trap by
gryffindorj
Summary: The prompt says it all: that other time, when they got trapped in the Shrieking Shack
Funny and fun and I won't say why I really liked it because that would spoil it.
A Short Summary of Things That Are James Potter's Fault by
xylodemon
Summary: In which the mistletoe is hexed, Remus would rather not spend the night in a broom cupboard, and several things are James Potter's fault.
Holy crap how is there so much good r/s fic floating about lately? This is really delightful, and like another one above, made me nostalgic for the r/s fic of yore, which is not to say the fic of today isn't good--it is--there was just so much of it before and really delightful stuff like this to remind me why I love them in the first place.
The Winter of Discontent by Rosie_Rues (this is on Livejournal in the
blanketforts community)
Summary: In which Sirius Black wakes up on the 1st day of 1979 embracing a Christmas tree.
I lost myself to this a bit ago and read it for ages. It's long and plotty and real and I enjoyed it a lot. I had been thinking, if I had read it before, I might not have written These Four Kings, because she writes Remus/Sirius the way I love them and the way I wanted to write them, but then I remember that I wrote it because I wanted to know about Peter, and, without giving too much away, she's way too nice to Peter here--she's too good to him. It's my only criticism. It's a great story.
The Secret Language of Brothers by
amuly (Fili & Kili (gen))
Summary: Fili and Kili have always shared a language all their own, starting from when Kili could barely stand on his own two feet and through their adventures together into adulthood.
Oh my goodness. This is so well done.
And finally, I'm a bad, bad person. Actually, I'm a good person who is wholly and firmly against incest except when it's completely fictional, as this definitely is. Icebound by pherede
Summary: Kili is lost in a snowstorm; Fili saves him. Durincest, h/c,
hurt/comfort. I am not sure it takes much more to suck me in, quite frankly.
Five Times Mike’s Phone Sort of Gets Him Into Trouble and One Time It Really, Really Doesn’t by
akiseo Mike/Harvey
Summary: pretty much what's on the tin
Everything Good in the World (Mike/Harvey)
Summary: It's not like this is the first kid who's changed Harvey; stopped him in his tracks, altered his perspective — got him thinking with his heart far more often than his head.
I'm also a sucker for (well written) kid!fic and this totally works for me. Well written and more about Mike than the writer trying to make a kid sound like a precocious kid.
The Rest Is Details by Antihelen (Mike/Harvey but really about Louis)
Summary: Snapshots of another life: Louis and Mike are brothers, and the rest is just details.
I can't remember reading anything that was really about Louis and didn't make him completely loathsome. I read (on Twitter, I think) that the writers based his character off of M*A*S*H's Frank Burns, and I can totally see that, which by default makes him loathsome but. This story reworks that and turns them into jokes or decisions he's consciously making. I don't know. I found my appreciation for Louis in this fic, and the rest ain't bad either. I'm greedy so I'm always going to say I want more Mike/Harvey but what is here, is good--subtle. Good story.

I'm also charging in to say hi, and that I think we should be friends, because yes.
