Helllllo :D I've been absent and not around these parts because I lost my LJ head for a tiny bit. Better now. It was less LJ stress and more work stress, which refuses to resolve itself, but I'm being more sanguine about it, though you couldn't tell it by my cuticles, which is a shame because I have rather pretty hands when I'm not nervously tearing them apart.
Anyway! Update! :D I had tickets to see the Red Hot Chili Peppers in January and I am EXCITED. Coldplay tour dates were announced today :D :D
kiltsandlollies and I are figuring that out. I am ALL for Coldplay on my Birthday (it rhymes! how could that not be awesome?) but *slumps* work *side eyes* Even if my staffing issues resolve themselves, July is tumbling full speed into August, which is never a good time around these parts. But! Coldplay! And I'm all for seeing them more than once if it works out.
Holiday fest fics are up and about, at least for one of my fandoms. Neither of my stories have posted yet, but that's okay as I'm feeling rather shy about them. The stories FOR me are up and they were both AWESOME. For the
lilyjames_fest, I received All Is Calm by
museme87, a truly lovely character study from James' POV by one of my favorite writers. She wrote one of my favorite
mwpp_mischief rare pair stories, so I was really excited when she chose my prompt for this fest. For
rs_small_gifts,
kingzgurl wrote/drew Sirius Has Better Things to Do Than Listen in Class. I was literally giggling at my desk. YAY!
I have one more fic that I'm writing (for
slashababy) and I wrote my first sentence last night, which is further along than I've ever been this early on. I have an Idea, which is more than I usually have. I have half of a another SECRET fic started, too, and I need to hurry up and finish it because the dialogue makes me laugh and I don't want to find myself back to being morose before it's finished--always a danger. Then I have two more SECRET fics to write.
Oh! Oh! It's Dominic's birthday and the lovely
kiltsandlollies has a most excellent pic spam up. I might love him the tiniest little bit, particularly that first picture and the last. I won't bore you with the REAMS of meta that happens in my head whenever I see his FACE.
Currently I have slight vertigo going on, which is about as much fun as it sounds. Stupid ear. I refuse to spend any more money on doctors, though, as they have proved themselves more than useless. It's not so bad except I've recently discovered how very often I tip back in my chair at work to stretch my shoulders. Oddly, my mom has it, too (vertigo), except she can't look down. Strange. She's going to the doctor tomorrow, and if he hands her drugs that help, then I'll make an appointment with him and say "what she said".
I've thought it was one day ahead this entire week but it's not, which is going to be really depressing tomorrow. I wanted to stay home today because my girl kitty was being adorable (as good a reason as any to take a day off, yeah?). She recently rediscovered a toy she used to play with when she was a kitten, and has taken to carrying it around in her mouth, putting it in any open bag (purses, grocery bags, whatever) that happens to be about, which is easier, she has found, than stuffing it into her mommy's shoes. She spends an inordinate amount of time each night trying to put her toe into a pair of my shoes that have been lying near the kitchen all week. She'll never play professionally but she's awfully cute in the trying.
Still don't have cable, and pretty sure that I won't get it back. I have discovered Hulu, though, so I can watch Hawaii 5-0 (I tried hard to resist it but they're all so very earnest and they blow things up or shoot things with a regularity that I enjoy), Castle (MEEP), and Covert Affairs. Apparently In Plain Sight has gone away? I'm sad because I LOVED that show. As in LOVED. It's weird because I don't know what nights things are on and have to remember to go watch before they expire. I missed most of Burn Notice and the first episode of H5-0 because of that. Burn Notice is coming back, right? Like Covert Affairs did? Confusing! Remember back in the 70's and 80's when tv shows would be on from September to the big cliffhanger in May with only a break for the Christmas cartoons? Reruns in summer? Life was so much simpler then. :D I also remember 8 tracks, rotary phones (with cords), and summers that lasted forever. Anyway, I also discovered The Closer, which I adore, but Kyra Sedgewick reminds me of 2D from the Gorillaz, which is a little weird. I love the cast, though, and the stories and the dialogue. I'm also still watching the 1995 Amanda Root version of Persuasion with alarming frequency. I tried watching New Girl at lunch but I'm unmoved. I'm not a huge fan of sitcoms (as in I hate Friends and Big Bang and Community--I just *hands*).
I've been reading, too, more than fanfiction. It had become pitiful how few books I've read this year. I just finished Animal, Vegetable, Miracle by Barbara Kingsolver and I'm reading Jane Austen's Persuasion right now (and truly it emphasizes how genius the 1995 screenplay is).
Right. Enough rambling. It's time to go! No time to talk about music other than to say that I "discovered" Jim Croce today. I remember hearing his songs way back when but had forgotten about him. Also The Black Keys have a new album out, and I discovered The Jezabels, and The Raconteurs (actually knew about them but had never really listened to them before. Right, seriously running out the door!

I'm sorry work is so stressful, and hope you can find ways to deal with your vertigo. Maybe a moment of meditation?
