Dom stared Billy down, satisfied only when Billy broke first and gave a nod of acceptance. Returning to his earlier task, Dom finished dusting chalk from Billy’s shoulders and thrust Billy’s notes and book into his arms. “Go.”
They stood for a minute, frozen. Billy knew if he complied that there would be no turning back. “How did you know, Dom?”
Dom snaked his arms around Billy’s waist and covered the bulge in Billy’s pants. “Now isn’t the time for questions. Just do as you are told.”
“But—“ He stopped and hissed through his teeth as Dom squeezed.
“Obey.”
Twelve
“William!”
Billy stopped, quite unable to face the man calling to him. “Ernest, sorry but—“
A balding, portly man was suddenly before Billy, smelling of cabbage and fish stew. Billy attempted to hide behind his books, craning his neck to see if Dom was near.
“Sick, old chap?”
“Fine. Just, umm--late.”
“What you need,” Ernest continued as if Billy hadn’t spoken, “is a woman to care for you, like my Dorothy. Finest woman alive. She’s a sister, just your age.”
“You know, I *am* feeling under the weather. You’ll excuse me?”
Billy hurried away before Ernest could respond.
