Recs!

So, the strangest thing happened. I spent the weekend reading Suits fic. I have a pairing! Mike Ross/Harvey Specter. Why is that strange? Because I've never seen the show...and now I don't want to because I'm rather enjoying my headcanon, which is obviously fanon since I don't know canon. Weird.

Anyway, what I like is that there is plenty of BDSM, D/s, and hurt/comfort. Apparently it's a thing on the show? I mean, not literally since it's primetime and all, but enough to lead to some really fantastic fic. I suspect I'd be really disappointed if it's not blantantly obvious, though. Like, if there's no chance that they'll kiss one day (or, rather, Harvey pins Mike to the wall and ravages his mouth) because both characters repeatedly declare themselve heterosexual at every give opportunity, I couldn't stand it. Not because I'm anti-heterosexual but because...let's a girl's imagination take her to great heights kind of thing.

Anyway. Recs! If you are at all interested in the things I listed above. Also, long, multi-chaptered fics--the fandom is knee deep in them.

Needs Must by thatotherperv.
Holy smokes. The first one I read (and I'll be honest--dropped it into a doc and changed the names to Remus (playing the role of Mike) and Sirius (playing the role of Harvey). That worked for me. But then somewhere along the line I didn't need to change the names. It was still Remus=Mike, Harvey=Sirius, as if Remus and Sirius were actors playing a role. Make sense? Whatever. The writing is excellent and it's smoking hot.
summary: When Grammy needs an upgrade in care, Mike knows that the usual one-off gig as a paid submissive won't be enough. He takes a job he's been refusing for a while - a long-term, full-time contract. He expects his client to be a sadistic asshole. He expects not to like it. He's wrong on both counts. This is, at heart, schmoopy hookerfic.

Summary: After a long process of trial and error, Mike becomes Harvey's sub. Or maybe he always has been.

So...I'm not sure what to say about this one. Read the tags--it's full of Things One Must Warn For (and for good reason). To be honest, when I saw where it was going, I skipped ahead until I found where the comfort starts (around chapter 10) being all "yeah, yeah, yeah bad people in the world, let's get to the making Mike feel better". Still, it's well done. I just have a low angst threshold.

A little on the sweet side of what I'm looking for in this fandom so I almost didn't read it, but there's this character called Donna (I guess...not having seen the show remember) who sounds completely awesome. I've cast her, too, so I'm not sure I want to see who the actual actress is. Such a weird relationship I have with this fandom. Anyway! This is really sweet, and I like that it's nearly completely from her POV.

He's a Friend by [livejournal.com profile] janedujour Mike/Harvey. Hurt/Comfort. Well written. These are a few of my favorite things. Summary: Mike accidentally imposes on Harvey's evening with a "friend" when he is mugged in the neighbourhood and needs a place to crash.

Human Qualities by tunes84. See above. summary: On the morning his body is used to shatter one of Pearson-Hardman's finest glass conference tables, Mike comes into the office exactly twenty-seven minutes late.

The New Deal by Closer. Gen Mike and Harvey and so perfect. I loved this one. summary: Harvey Specter, second year law student at Harvard, was walking home one night when he found a teenaged runaway named Mike freezing to death on his doorstep.

lol it's funny you mention Suits because this weekend I just started watching it. I'm at episode 9 so far (there are 12 in the first season and 1 in the second season so far). I won't say anything about them either way in canon unless you want me to. I just had to comment on how funny that timing was XD

[ETA] Just saw the comment you had at the end-- you're right to think that Donna is awesome. Because she is. I freaking love her XD

That is funny :D I'm torn between thinking I might really like the show (I'm a fan in general of USA's show's, particularly Burn Notice, so I'm ready to believe the writing is likely awesome and that it's well acted) and convinced that I would hate it because Harvey would be too much of an ass to barebear, which combined with the incredibly unlikeliness that there would actually be Mike/Harvey action... I don't know. There's really great fic, and I'm sure more to come with season 2, so likely I'll read and not watch (unless something REALLY AWESOME happens--you'd tell me, right, if Harvey decides to take Mike over his desk?).

Man, I need to watch Burn Notice! So many people I know watch it and keep referencing it, and more than one person has recommended it directly to me. I tried starting it awhile back but I think I really wasn't in the mood for that kind of show at the time because I barely made it through the first episode.

You know, to be honest, Harvey isn't that much of an ass. He seems like he is at first but even halfway through the first season you really get a sense of how he's actually not that bad of a guy. I thought he'd be insufferable at first only because he seemed like he had no cares for anyone else at all in the very beginning but I was surprised by how quickly I felt endeared by his personality rather than not, based on things he does and things he says. He's definitely not going to win Good Samaritan of the Year but he's also not going to win Biggest Jackass of the Year either I don't think.

lol yeah I'll tell you if Harvey and Mike get it on ^_~ Or if there's some intense slashable scene.

Holy hell you just got me into suits fic. I loved the show, but, never really fell into fandom, but that first fic.

Thank you.

While I hate a WIP (says the apparently master of them), it looks like she updates every Tuesday. Today's was good--really good. I'm torn between never wanting the fic to end and really needing Harvey to take back what is his. I'm going to update this post with a few more recs tonight or tomorrow. I found two really great fics, neither of which I thought I'd like but both of which really worked.

I do hate a WiP, but, I love the excitement of getting a new instalment, like with your fics, it's such a joy to go OMG UPDATE, must read.

And realising this writer updates every Tuesday? I think it just became my favourite day. I'll admit, I see the rest of this evening trawling through AO3 and LJ for more Suits fics. Can't wait to see what other recs you've got, you generally seem to have similar tastes in fic as me, which is wonderful really from my POV! If I've passed a fic and started but didn't get on with it, but then you rec it I'm like, 'hm, maybe I should give that another chance'. I've found some of my favourite fics this way :)

Thanks for the compliment :D (this is real journal [livejournal.com profile] escribo, btw--too lazy to log back in now that I'm out). Definitely let me know if you've found a good Suits fic. I've mostly been looking at AO3 but truly hate that site. It was just the quickest way to search just for that pairing. Apparently there's a kinkmeme but I forgot where I saw the link...

Some of those stories are really absorbing, thanks for the links! The canon doesn't do it for me, but the fanfic writers are so good!

I added some more recs to my main rec page. There definitely is some great fic, and I find canon to be a bit irrelevant. I like fanon so much better.
