The MRI was not a good time :( I thought I was going to have a melt down when it first started, and then I calmed down, and then in the second to the last set (there were six: 30 seconds, 2 two minutes, three minutes, 2 four minutes), I thought I was going to have a melt down but got it together at the thought of having to reschedule and start all over. In the end, it took less than 20 minutes and the technician said he was really impressed that I had been able to do it in one go because most people can't (the compression making it worse). I kept my eyes closed with a wash cloth over them and kept counting. Like, the technician would say, "this set will take four minutes" and I'd begin counting four minutes in sixty second intervals so I always knew how long it was going to last. Not as bad as a root canal, honestly, but holy crap there will be new nightmare fodder. I'm not claustrophobic per se unless I'm in crowds (like, I'm good in an elevator but I find it upsetting in an elevator full of people) but I hate being beneath things. Like the thought of being underwater or underground really freaks me out--no diving or spelunking for me! and this was kinda that with the huge machine over me.

After, I went for a manicure (OPI's "forgot my checkbook" from their new Euro collection, which is like a bright almost turquoise blue for the interested), and foooooood so much food--I needed a lot of comfort. I was too nervous to have breakfast so I got an apple fritter from the grocery store bakery and then picked up a hot chocolate while I was waiting for my mom (who was having a massage) and then we went to Tazikis Cafe for lunch and it was really very good. I picked up baklava for dessert and had to bring it home because I'm so full. I got pork tenderloin and it had a tomato chutney that was the best part. And then we stopped in Whole Foods to pick up cat food but that always means sorbet (I got pineapple and lime in the coconut). I'm pretty much going to sit at home for the rest of the day and digest. And eat, since I have baklava and sorbet for later... Except I keep forgetting that I have to go back out to go to the chiropractor tonight (don't want!).

I spent a while last night arranging the list of movies (I combined lists from AFI and IMDb) and books (I think they were BBC, The Guardian, NPR, and New York Times--and someone on some list was waaaaaay too appreciative of Henry James). I'm doing the music today. I was surprised by how few movies I'd seen. I mean, I've seen a lot of classics (huge fan of Bogart, Grant, all the Hepburns :D) but I haven't seen a lot of what I suppose would be considered classics (like Jaws, Titanic, The Godfather). Last night, I watched African Queen, which is on the list and which I've seen before, and His Girl Friday, which isn't on anybody's list (but should be) and which I've also seen before.

I think I've read more though while I mixed and matched several lists, I was surprised (and not) by what was left off (anything by Toni Morrison, Alice Walker, or Pat Conroy for example (authors of color or authors from the South), and, as expected, almost nothing from an author who isn't American or British, who had written science fiction or what would be considered a children's novel). I've decided with books that if I don't like it within 40 pages, then I'm not going to slog through to the end. Some I have already tried to read and found unreadable (like Theodore Dreiser's An American Tragedy James Joyce's A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man). Some of those I read when I was in my teens or twenties so I'm still going to give them a go now again and see if it's different.

Anyway! Rambling because I'm waiting for a maintenance guy to show up and fix my security system. He should be here soon. I hate when they have to come out because they always have to set the alarm off (of course) and the sound is a trigger for my anxiety even when I know it's coming. I just have an immediate "oh my god! oh my god! someone's coming to kill you!" reaction to it. I sound like a lot of fun at parties, right?

Glad the MRI is over! Those things can be freaky.

But you're making my mouth water otherwise; the food sounds delicious.

Personally, I don't think you're missing anything with Titanic -- the historical accuracy is great, but the specific plot of the film is silly (imo, anyway).

I hate Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man.

My nails almost totally match your icon :D

I was never interested in seeing Titanic but I've been told below that Kate Winslet is good in it, and I suppose that might be enough for me. I can't quite get excited about it though.

I read Portrait when I was in high school, and my English teacher told me I would appreciate it more when I got older. I still have my doubts.

I'm so glad that's over for you! Even if you did have more chiro ugh tonight. You did amazing, just as I thought you would. <3

How did you escape Titanic! I'm actually rather fond of it, or I should say I'm really fond of Kate Winslet in it. Rose and her Marianne Dashwood in Sense and Sensibility are her best roles, I think. And I've never seen The Godfather, either. Solidarity. *nod*

I loved her in Enigma and in Sense and Sensibility. She's really fantastic.

Not wanting to do something again has gotten me through many scenarios. I'm so glad you were able to get through it in one go.

Thanks :D Knowing how much time is left and not having to do something unpleasant again are definitely good motivators. Now, if only those would work with maintaining healthy lifestyles, right? Why must cookies taste soooo good, is what I'm saying.

I still haven't recommended you a film book! I need to get on that.

I also love Kate Winslet in Titanic. It certainly doesn't hurt that she looks stunning in it. I perv on her in it, I do.

His Girl Friday is wonderful, and I love The Godfather, though, like many, I really prefer the second one. Also, I love mob movies as a rule, so I'm probably not the best barometer. :D

I don't think I've ever watched a mob movie--no Goodfellas or...can't actually think of any others. Is Goodfellas even a mob movie? This! is totally why i started down this road :D I think this weekend is going to be for Westerns. I've never seen a John Wayne movie, not that I think it's on anyone best list (unless he's in Hondo). I like Westerns, too, at least to read (Louis L'Amour and Zane Gray, mostly).

Yes, Goodfellas totally qualifies! (And it's one of my favorites.)

Ooh westerns... be sure to watch The Searchers. Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful. Visually, that is. :) A post-Western western. Very interesting.

I can't even imagine that. On top of being uncomfortable, it was so loud.
