Notes: Laura said "This evening's background happy thought is wondering what Incline Dominic would make of this picture of his good professor, taken years before they'd met, during one of Billy's bohemian slacker phases. Tell me that's not a happy thought. And then expand upon it." And so I did.

The picture slipped from between the pages of one of Billy's trashy science fiction novels, Exiles at the Wells of Souls, which Dominic was reading because there was nothing better to do--or at least because his something better was busy doing something else. It was stuck between pages 134 and 135, its corner bent and Billy's name scrawled on the back in a loopy hand that Dominic didn't recognize. Dominic stared at it for a few minutes, at the handwriting on the back and at the man himself.
"Where was this taken?" He finally asked, twisting from where he was sprawled across his chair to wave the picture in Billy's direction.
Billy didn't look up from the papers and for a minute Dominic thought maybe he was asleep. Dominic flapped the picture again, catching his attention. "Hmm?"
"This one."
Billy dropped the newspaper onto the floor and rolled onto his side to take the picture from Dominic. "Where did you dig that up from?"
"It was stuck in the book I'm reading." Dominic tumbled from his chair and crawled over to where Billy lay on the couch. He rested his chin on Billy's shoulder so that he could see the photo as well. "I like it," he said, grinning at Billy's little moue of displeasure. He never liked himself in photos.
"The sideburns or the hair?"
"You. I'd have shagged you."
"You shag me now. I'm beginning to think you're not that picky."
"Not when it comes to you." Dominic took the photo from Billy and leaned his back against the couch. He stared down at the photo again, touched it with his finger. "Where was it taken?"
"Wedding."
"Whose?"
"A cousin's. They're divorced now."
"Did you have a date?"
"Only just a friend."
"So you didn't sleep with him."
Billy was quiet for a minute, twisting to look at Dominic and Dominic looked back at him. It's on his tongue to ask if maybe he'd got the pronoun wrong. Billy took off his glasses, reaching behind him to put them on the table. "It was nearly ten years ago. Would it matter?"
"I've got a whole--" Dominic waved his hand in the air before he turned back to the picture. "Thing going on in my head."
"Oh yeah?"
Dominic hummed and didn't take his eyes off the photo.
"Did you want to share with the whole class, Mr. Monaghan?"
"I was only just thinking that this is a man willing to go down on his knees in a public bath."
"Might have done. With the right partner at least. Go on."
"That's as far as I got."
"I suppose it's enough for a start."
"Can I keep it?"
"If you'd like. I'd better not find it under your pillow."
"Look at that," Dominic said as he tapped the photo. "Gorgeous. What were you thinking I wonder?"
"I was probably wondering when they'd open up the bar. It was a long day."
"Was it a girl?"
"Hmm?"
"Your date. I said he. Was he a she?"
"Just a friend. I didn't get on my knees much, Dom. Even when I was young enough not to listen to them pop and crack when I did. At least not until I met you."
"You're not that old."
"I feel it sometimes."
Dominic put the picture on the table and turned, kneeling. He let his hand drift over the front of Billy's jeans, only just teasing, smiling when Billy inhaled deeply and shifted a bit. Laughed a bit when Billy's legs fell open. He moved his hand over Billy's thigh. "Gorgeous," he whispered again and Billy laughed with him this time, until his laughter gave way to choked moans and Dominic's name murmured like a prayer, like salvation.

I think this is actually my favourite part: Billy was quiet for a minute, twisting to look at Dominic and Dominic looked back at him. It's on his tongue to ask if maybe he'd got the pronoun wrong. Billy took off his glasses, reaching behind him to put them on the table. "It was nearly ten years ago. Would it matter?"

That is so them. I can see and hear this whole thing, obviously, but this is so. them. :) And then Billy's evasive to his bone marrow but at the same time telling far more than he thinks, and Dominic's riding his own wave and Billy's at the same time, and yeah. This. Ahhh.
SO MUCH HOMEWORK, YO. Sharpen those pencils. <333

I enjoyed Dom's generalized sense of possession in all things Billy.
It might have been ten years ago, but he wanted to know the details.
That's cute, and it seems quite Dom-like (and hot.) :)
